Henryk Wieniawski Musical Society of Poznań, one of the oldest musical institutions in Poland, isorganiser of International Henryk Wieniawski Violin and Violin-Making Competitions.
The association brings together scholars, culture animators, artists, promoters of musical life and music lovers. It continues the tradition of the oldest musical society in Poznań, which was established on 2 May 1885 as „Koło Śpiewackie Polskie” [The Polish Song Community].
It is a founder member of the World Federation of Music Competitions in Geneva. The society also co-hosts national violin, viola, cello and double bass player, as well as violinmaker events.
One of the main objectives of the Wieniawski Society is fostering the memory and disseminatingknowledge about its patron. It collects documents and memorabilia, as well as publishes works on Henryk Wieniawski’s life and work. For years, the Society’s Scientific and Editorial Board has been publishing Henryk Wieniawski’s „Dzieła Wszystkie” [Complete Works]. The Society’s main priority, however, is to support young musicians by organising concerts, workshops, recordings,
online events, and other forms of activity aimed ar promoting violin music.
On October 7-21 this year 16th edition of International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition will be held. The French virtuoso Augustin Dumay will chair the jury, and the deputy chairman is Daniel Stabrawa – a Pole, who for many years was the concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic.
The Competition received as many as 224 applications from 34 countries. By 30 April 2022, the pre-selection jury shall choose the violinists that we are going to hear in October in Poznań. The competition will be entirely broadcast online on the Wieniawski PL YouTube channel.
We hope that the talented participants of the String Avenue competition, inspired by the music of Henryk Wieniawski, will take part in the Poznań competition of his name in the future.
